Aleksei Stevens is a composer and sound artist living in Brooklyn, NY. His work combines instrumental writing and improvisation with found sound, generative processes, and interactive computer music systems.
Aleksei has had his music performed at many of the leading experimental music venues in the city, including The Stone, Monkeytown, 3-Legged Dog, Roulette, Chelsea Art Museum, The Tank, The Flea Theater, The Monkey, White Box, and many others, as well as Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, and venues in Europe. Installation works have been presented as part of Ear to the Earth (NYC) and Tevereterno (Rome). Recent collaborators include Joan La Barbara, Alvin Curran, Joel Chadabe, Kathy Supove, Madeleine Shapiro, Jessica Schmitz, Okkyung Lee, Bora Yoon, and Jennifer Stock.
Aleksei earned a masters degree in composition from Manhattan School of Music in 2006, where he studied with Nils Vigeland. He currently teaches composition, digital audio, and interactive multimedia in the New Media Art and Performance MFA program at Long Island University in Brooklyn.
